How a liberal vegan environmentalist made the switch from climate proponent to climate skeptic

Look at the data and the science for yourself…

David Seigel, a longtime liberal Democrat, environmentalist vegan;  writes a lengthy informative essay on how and why he converted from climate alarmist to climate-change skeptic based upon the science.

What I Learned about Climate Change: The Science is not Settled

David Writes:

What is your position on the climate-change debate? What would it take to change your mind?

If the answer is It would take a ton of evidence to change my mind, because my understanding is that the science is settled, and we need to get going on this important issue, that’s what I thought, too. This is my story.

More than thirty years ago, I became vegan because I believed it was healthier (it’s not), and I’ve stayed vegan because I believe it’s better for the environment (it is). I haven’t owned a car in ten years. I love animals; I’ll gladly fly halfway around the world to take photos of them in their natural habitats. I’m a Democrat: I think governments play a key role in helping preserve our environment for the future in the most cost-effective way possible. Over the years, I built a set of assumptions: that Al Gore was right about global warming, that he was the David going up against the industrial Goliath. In 1993, I even wrote a book about it.

Recently, a friend challenged those assumptions. At first, I was annoyed, because I thought the science really was settled. As I started to look at the data and read about climate science, I was surprised, then shocked. As I learned more, I changed my mind. I now think there probably is no climate crisis and that the focus on CO2 takes funding and attention from critical environmental problems. I’ll start by making ten short statements that should challenge your assumptions and then back them up with an essay.

Smart Science

From the UCLA – Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.

A study published on their website titled “Back to School: Unlearning Nine Environmental Myths”  looks to examine environmental myths vs realities.

…”Rooted not in fact and science but in myth and fear, these certainties keep environmentalism from moving forward and being more relevant to the contemporary world. For my new students — and all environmentalists — here’s a quick guide to myth vs. reality in the environmental space.

Myth 7: People who don’t think we should act strongly to stop climate change are just stupid/ill-informed/ignorant.

Reality: A sample of over 1,500 representative U.S. adults revealed that those who felt climate change was not much of a risk scored as well or better than those worried about climate change when given standardized tests of numeracy or scientific literacy. So if you really care about doing something about emissions and climate, do not make the mistake that those who disagree with you do not know the science or are in any sense not as well-informed or as smart as you are. Instead, think about why their positions make sense within the framework of their social values and how to talk about climate change in terms of those values.

Most common baby name in England is…. Muhammad

In England: “Muhammad has finally taken the lead in 2014. The name can be spelled 10 different ways, so when they’re all added together, it jumps up to first place.”

http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a25011623/most-popular-baby-name-trends-2014

and in London,  from Breitbart:

…”The most popular name given to newborn baby boys in London in 2014 was Muhammad, according to the Office of National Statistics, after first taking the position in 2012.

Aisha, the name of the prophet Muhammad’s final wife and daughter of Abu Bakr, the first caliph to succeed Muhammad, rose 18 places to become the 76th most popular name for British baby girls.”…

The Propaganda of Peace

It has been awhile since this Blog site has been updated, but recent events have stirred up the mind again and the steam has fueled the fire for some more postings.

Just this week: President Obama celebrates the path to a nuclear Iran, as a domestic terrorist slaughters defenseless Marines.

Terrorism.  It is a real threat to those that wish to live peacefully here in the U.S.

Meanwhile, Iranians openly rally and scream “Death to America!!” as they praise the “Nuclear Deal” that the U.S. agreed to this week.  Iran got everything they want.  The U.S.?…  It’s current leaders blindly sip champagne as the Religion of Peace continues to slaughter those who disagree with them.

I was reminded today about this video parody by the “1/2 Hour News Hour Show”  which tries to answer the question, after numerous terrorist attacks in 2007 upon London transit system:  What Do they all have in Common?… It reflects the current administration’s inability to see the big picture:

Sooooo….

What Do They All Have in Common?

In The Middle of Nuclear Negotiations, NSA Scraps Iran and Hezbollah As Terror Threats

From the Times of Israel Times of Israel: …”Apparently because ISIS poses a bigger threat than other major terrorist groups, an annual report delivered recently to the US Senate by James Clapper, the director of National Intelligence, removed Iran and Hezbollah from its list of terrorism threats, after years in which they featured in similar reports.”

HT Katie Pavlich at Townhall: “Is ISIS a threat? Absolutely. Should we align ourselves with or appease Iran because of their work against ISIS? Absolutely not.”

“As a reminder Hezbollah, funded by Iran, is the largest terror organization in the world. Before 9/11, Hezbollah, not Al Qaeda, was responsible for the majority of U.S. terrorism deaths, including the 1983 bombings of U.S. Marine barracks and U.S. embassy in Beirut, in addition to a series of attacks in the ’80s. Hezbollah is also responsible for countless attacks on Israel. In 1992, Hezbollah, with help from Iran, bombed the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires. In 1994 they bombed the Jewish community center in the same South American city. Those are just a handful of examples that don’t even account for the thousands of rockets Hezbollah has launched into Israel throughout the years.”

WTF?.. Wave the Flag!!!

In another sign of political correctness gone horribly wrong, the American flag has been banned from being displayed at UC Irvine.

American-Flag-faded

In a push for what has been described as cultural inclusion, the student government at UC Irvine has voted to ban the display of all flags — including the American flag — in an area of the campus.

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-american-flag–ban-uc-irvine-20150306-story.html

As posted at the website “Campus Reform” the Associated Students of University of California, Irvine (ASUCI) passed the Bill that was authored by Social Ecology Representative Matthew Guevara who accuses all flags, especially, the American flag, of being “symbols of patriotism or weapons for nationalism.”

“[T]he American flag has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism,” the bill continues, arguing that “symbolism has negative and positive aspects that are interpreted differently by individuals.”

Great comment there in response to this vote: “Time to remove that offensive American currency from their pockets too”.

Meanwhile….San Francisco City Hall proudly flies the Chinese flag.

WTF?..
